Starting your seeds indoors is a great idea if it's still too warm outside for your cool-weather crops, or too cool outside for your warm-weather crops. Don't spend a lot of money on peat pots or starter kits at the stores when you can make your very own starter pots! All you need is some recycled newspaper, or a toilet paper roll! I made a couple videos to show just how easy it is to make your own.
In this first video I'm making a starter pot with nothing but my recycled newspaper and a coke can. You can use the same method using a straight edge glass, or even a toilet paper roll (if you wish for smaller pots). These pots can be placed straight into your garden if you like, however I recommend taking your seedlings out first - newspaper can sometimes take a little longer to decompose than expected. It is so fast and easy I can't imagine ever buying starter pots from the stores!
In this next video, I am using a second method for making my own starter pots. This way only requires empty toilet paper rolls. Again it is so fast and easy! These may also be planted straight into your garden, but again I recommend to take the seedlings out before. The choice is yours!
I hope you found these videos simple and helpful!
