I thought I would use this first post to really introduce myself. My name is Jennifer, I am 24 years old and I live in Northern California. Now to the good stuff...
I have always been into cooking. Okay, I can't promise that everything I have cooked or baked has come out perfect, but I can say that I did put a good effort into it! There isn't anything I won't try, whether it's a filet mignon with a sizzling pan sauce, or something as simple as a crisp and succulent salad. There are so many ingredients that go into our food, and cooking fresh is best!
Having my own garden to grow veggies and herbs has been a distant dream of mine (very small backyard). Until I read about raised garden beds. So now's the time! This weekend I will be building a raised garden bed for my backyard and will be posting about the process and my experience (hopefully no injuries...). Yes, I know it's already the the middle of September, and I would have been better off starting in June or July, but that's just my charming flair for bad timing.
This being said, you must know...I am what you would call a "casual" gardener. I created this blog as a way of following my journey through this experience, and to share tips and tricks that I find helpful, or learned along the way about growing different vegetables and herbs, as well as how to cook with them. I will try to devote each week to a new ingredient, posting tips on how best to grow them and cook with them. I will also be including recipes that are my own, I have tried, or find so mouth-watering that I just have to include (I will do my best to try most of these recipes). If you don't have a garden, thats okay too! Join us just for the cooking tips and recipes!
Because this is a learning experience for many of us, comments and suggestions are much wanted! If you have a great tip or trick, leave it in the comments section! If you have an amazing recipe that you have tried, or just think everyone should see, go to my "Contact me" page and send me an email. I would love to feature it in a post! If you have questions, ask them, I'm sure others would be more than happy to help! I will do my best to answer based on my experience, and if I can't, I will do a little research.
I hope you enjoy Jennie's Veggies!
